Accessories contribute to your personal style, taste and character. It can make you look more stylish and attractive, allowing you to express your own unique style. In the menopause, we often lose our style character, feeling very unattractive whilst feeling old, due to societies perception of the menopause. Its often difficult to find clothing that we feel is stylish once we reach 50+ due to the clothing industry failing to create clothing for all age groups, however, there is no reason why you cannot create some style and character with accessories.

Did you know there are several benefits to wearing accessories?

Some of them are  -

  • HIGHLIGHTING YOUR FEATURES - Wearing jewellery and all other forms of accessories can highlight special features of your hands, neck, ears and face. Earrings highlight your facial features, so choose wisely.

  • SHOWCASING YOUR PERSONALITY - The type of jewellery and accessory that you wear, showcase your personality. Bold and bright coloured accessories reflect a bubbly, bright personality, whilst wearing muted colours may reflect reserved or a business-like personality. The first impression is the last, always remember that.

  • ENERGISING YOUR OUTFIT - To create a 'wow' appearance, choose a coloured outfit, team it up with some statement accessory pieces, and your outfit has been energised. The power of jewellery, teamed with other accessories is a secret weapon that all women should have in their wardrobe.

KEY PIECES OF ACCESSORIES

HANDBAGS:  The handbag is the leading accessory for almost every woman. There are various types of bags like a tote bag, clutches, duffels, mini bags and so much more, that we use as an accessory. The one tip to remember is to purchase a bag that complements your outfit.

BELTS: The belt is an accessory that has the power to make your outfit. A plain dress can be changed from a simple look to glamourous chic. The best way to wear a belt is to wear it tightened to accentuate your waist.

JEWELLERY:  Jewellery can add elegance to an outfit if co-ordinated correctly. The best tip is to not wear too many layers of jewellery but perhaps a few bespoke/statement pieces like a necklace, earrings or bracelets … preferably not all together.

SUNGLASSES: Glasses have an amazing ability to lift an entire outfit whilst highlighting your facial features if the right frame and size is chosen. You must always buy sunglasses according to your face type and that means knowing what face shapes work with which frames.

7 PRIMARY FACE SHAPES

  • OVAL - People with this face shape have a naturally proportioned face. This is deemed as the ideal face shape and the face shape most frames will suit. Choose frames that are as wide as the broadest part of your face

  • HEART-SHAPED - Your face will be wide at the top with a narrow bottom - to reduce the top the face, choose frames that are wider at the bottom. Choose thin, light coloured frames or rimless frames. Angular or round frames also work well

  • OBLONG - Your face shape is longer than is wide and has a long straight cheek line which means that you should avoid narrow or small square-shaped glasses. Choose frames with a decorative or contrasting temple. Wider frames are also good as they break up the length of your face

  • SQUARE  - You possess a strong jaw and a broad forehead, therefore avoid angular frames. To soften and make the face look longer, try narrow frame styles or frames the have more width than depth or rounded rectangular or oval-shaped frames.

  • DIAMOND - Narrow at the forehead - widens at the cheeks and chin area. Try frames that have detailed or distinctive brow lines or rimless spectacles and frames with oval or cat-eye shapes

  • ROUND - Your face width and length are the same proportions and you should therefore look for glasses which are contrasting to your face shape. Choose frames with a clear bridge and rectangular frame.

  • TRIANGLE - You possess a narrow forehead which widens at the cheeks and chin area. Try frames that are heavily accentuated with colour and detailing at the top half of the frame or cat-eye shaped glasses are a great choice.

Its time to start shopping and add some accessories to your wardrobe ...
